Records falling: OK, this is a change of pace, well sort of.
Much of my material is aimed at what I think of as "willful travesty."
These natural and synthetic catastrophic events or situations were/are--by and large avoidable, yet were foisted upon an unsuspecting citizen at large providing negative rather than positive societal contribution.
In the case of natural disaster, most could have been mitigated but weren't--man-made catastrophe has its root in greed without compunction.
Most often "travesty" involves large scale larceny, untenable corruption, Eco-destruction and other ill-advised, wanton and otherwise destructive moves made by self-anointed power mongers such as elitist corporations or self-serving politicos--or more often a combination of both working in a mutually satisfying tandem with little thought given to victims and casualties.
It seems in 2012 many records are being set in the "misery" arena. 2012 is shaping up to be a year of unenviable records.
Record breaking is definitely a hall mark for the 2012 period, including it seems... dog squander.
- Record breaking unemployment.
- Record breaking economic collapse.
- Record breaking floods, fires and tsunami.
- Record breaking heat.
- Record breaking atomic catastrophe.
- Record breaking foreclosures.
- Record breaking sovereign, municipal, corporate and personal bankruptcy.
- To name but a few... It seems the "record broken" list could be endless once one factors in the domino effect of intersecting calamities.
Some record breaking is beyond comprehension and needs to be highlighted, if only for the absurdity factor or blatant disregard for our current world situation--to say the optics of this are not appropriate would be a huge understatement.
$158,000 dog wedding sets record
So, in this time of universal misery and angst it appears the well-set have priorities. I see this behavior as a "salt in the wound move"--wrapped in a flimsy wrapper of bourgeois philanthropy.
Fund-raising for any cause is good, but perhaps a less public display of excess would have been more appropriate for this cause, unless of course a particular point is being made for reason. I can only hope not or we are further over the cliff than even I thought.
Beyond Prophecy.... Perhaps?
Stay tuned...

After they got hitched, the cuddly couple were presented with a Guinness World Record in the category of most expensive pet wedding at $158,187.26. The luxury goods and services that went into the wedding were all donated. Guests bought tickets for the Manhattan fund-raiser.
Baby Hope was adopted by animal welfare activist Wendy Diamond after her beloved Maltese died of cancer last month. Lucky Diamond, a longtime champion of the underdog, was originally cast as the bride. The wedding instead served as a celebration of the life of the little Maltese.
Lucky herself held a Guinness Record: The animal most photographed with famous people. She posed with more than 300 celebrities, fromTwilight actress Kristen Stewart to hip-hop star Snoop Dogg.
No expense was spared for the black-tie gala, held at the Jumeirah Essex House Hotel at Central Park. The "dream team" included a celebrity wedding planner, a "lighting guru" with experience at major museums, and highly touted chefs for the reception, to name just a few.
Since the guests came from more than one species, a company co-owned by Ellen DeGeneres provided a pet food buffet.I may appear to be a kill-joy in this affair, well, so be it - I find this whole thing to be rancid and in bad taste at least contextually-- considering prevailing world conditions and the misery endured by millions and in particular the plight of children--at this time.
